OPI Lemonade Stand by Your Man

OPI Lemonade Stand by Your Man is a shimmery lemon zest. The pigmentation of this is so poor that I still have a visible nail line after 3 layers (it might be made this way but I perfer something more pigmented).

Wet n Wild Clinical Lash Serum and Mascara

Wet n Wild Clinical Mascara and Lash Serum was released as a limited edition twin set early this year for around 6 dollars. The two items are still available for purchase separately for around 4 dollars each. Let's see how the mascara performs...
The wand of Wet n Wild Clinical Mascara is medium sized one shaped like a test tube brush, which seems to do a decent job picking up just the right amount of paste without having them gunking up.When you tilt the wand 90 degrees, you will find a "special design": The two sides of the wand are trimmed so the bristle there is shorter than those on adjacent side (just imagine on 12 and 6 o'clock position of the brush there is longer hair while the 9 and 3 o'clock position the bristles are cut short).
If I want a smaller wand for hard-to-reach areas, the longer side will still manage to smudge the under eye since the brush is positioned closer to the eyes.Anyway, I ended up just using the long side to apply all the time so I find the feature a little unhelpful and bothersome.

As for the mascara itself, I find the consistency just right, not too thick or runny that it coats my lashes evenly, giving it a slight glossy, defined effect and some color. There is no crazy length or volume but I like it that way. It would be a good purchase but unfortunately, the mascara flakes within a few hours and leave a trail of evidence under my eyes. It's almost like a crackle nail polish, for the under eye area...Thanks to the special effect, I didn't wear it long enough to tell if it has any lash growth effect (I doubt there is any since it's not applied to the follicles, where growth occurs).

The Megalash Clinical Serum has a slanted brush as applicator that makes application rather easy and fuzz-free. The liquid is too runny that I need to be very careful when I use it so it won't run in my eyes (it stings). Since I am not a careful person, I just ended up using it for my eyebrow hair after mowing it (I am horrible at brow trimming). It's quite effective stimulating hair growth from what I can tell...

Overall: The lash serum itself is worth trying for the price (when it's 50% off at Walgreens). But if you want to spend a few more dollars, I find the L'Oreal serum more user-friendly (as I can actually use that on my lashes).

Orange Blush and Fashion Stuff

I have been loving orange cheeks lately so the reading list consists of mainly orange colored blushes.
This little guy showed up when I tried to swatch an Essie nail color outdoor

Orange Blushes and others
MAC My Paradise blush compared to Sleek Pan Tao and a pretty look she did
Canmake Powder Cheeks in Naple Orange and Cheek Gradation in Orange Gradation
Canmake Cheek and Cheek double blush(I wish US drugstore blushes are this cute)
NYX Mosaic Powder Blush in Love (there is only a picture, but it's a good one)
Benefit Cha-Cha tint Lip and Cheek stain looks like a perfect mango (eye)candy
PJ @ A Touch of Blusher says Happy 10th Birthday to her favorite Biteki Magazine.

Non-beauty-related reads
White blouse + denim + simple bag + red lips = Love this kind of outfit!
Love the all white trend that's going on(Not too fond of the cleaning part though).

Last but not least, I have been obsessing with Nancy's illustration and outfit posts, which is the perfect mix-mash of Asian cuteness and European street style. I went over and looked over her (not yet entire, but I am getting there) archive, you might want to take a look too!

Shiseido Perfect Rouge Tender Sheer in Natural Wine

The range of Tender Sheer lipstick is relatively new from Shiseido (that was released last spring). There is a limited selection of colors in the range so I picked the deepest one, what looked like the most unique of the bunch. As strange as it may sound, plummy shades make great spring-time lip color since the deep tone works/contrasts especially well with soft, pastel clothes and pale skins (that you get after winter).
The shade I picked, Natural Wine (RS628) is sheer plummy red that is free of shimmer. The lipstick has no scent, a slightly moist sheen, medium pigmentation and is effortless to glide. Even though it's marketed as a sheer lip tint, it's still a lot more pigmented compared to lipsticks from Japanese brands that one swipe already gives me a good deal of color(since Natural Wine is so deep, one or two swipes is usually all I need).
On the lips, Shiseido Perfect Rouge Tender Sheer is so comfortable to wear that it almost feels like a lip balm.I also like the sheen it leaves behind, which is subtle and healthy-looking.

Overall: Great finish/texture, true to color and very comfortable on the lips. The color selection is quite narrow and boring(Reads: I am happy with what I have but no re-purchase necessary).

Revlon Age Defying Color Stay Aqua Makeup

Revlon Age Defying Makeup(in which the content is shaped like a double helix) that "helps protect skin's DNA to fight the signs of aging".They make it sound like your skin has a different set of DNA...
Revlon also added Colorstay Aqua Mineral Finishing Powder into the mineral makeup range (maybe it's not a range since there aren't many products in it anyway).

Mary Kay Signature Eyeshadow in Lucky Penny and Whipped Cocoa

Mary Kay Signature Eyeshadow are little shadow pans you pop in a bigger compact (which by the way is pretty nicely made with a sizable mirror).I got two of these eyeshadow (as well as a lipstick, which I will show you later) to play with from my roommate, whose mom is a Mary Kay associate.
Lucky Penny is a shimmery bronze that doesn't look too rusty/warm. The shadow pigmented and smooth enough to do a one-color smokey eye, all I need to do is apply the color at the base of the lid and drag the color upward. Whipped cocoa is a matte taupe brown (more brown than gray on the pan but becomes a lot cooler tone when swatched) with a satin matte texture. While I don't have much skill to do anything with a matte shadow, I find it work pretty well as a brow-filler.

Overall: Nothing terribly exciting, they make great neutral nevertheless.

Essie Clambake Nail Color

Essie Nail Color (available at drugstore for around $8) in Clambake is a lovely orange red jelly. The formula was a dream to apply and I love that the red doesn't stain my nailbed when I use it without a base.

Crushing on Coral (Lips)

Just another day, another coral lip combo post.
Maybelline Color Sensational Lipstick in Coral Crush (yes it smells funny but the color is just too pretty to skip) with NYC lip slider Sugar Angel to warm it up.
Shiseido Maquillage Moisture Rouge with NYC lippin large Mulberry (didn't like the cough syrup scent at first but the gloss grew on me...I guess I just can't say no to sheer red glosses?)
Maybelline Coral Lustre (I think I should just leave/wear this alone) Liplicious Passion Fruit Guava. Speaking of Maybelline, I just saw a gorgeous vibrant purple-magenta gloss from their display. I hope there will be another sale soon!
Covergirl Coral Shine lipstick with L'Oreal Jelly Balm in Ripe - The covergirl lipstick (discontinued last year) is my most used lipstick since I got it, I just love the unusual combo of coral with silver shimmer (most brands will match coral with gold).

Yuja Wang for Proud Magazine

I rarely talk about classical music or fashion here but I can't help it when I saw this terrific/terrifying glamor shot of Chinese classical pianist Yuja Wang...
Just exactly WTF is this? Auntie perms, gaudy earrings, blue eyeshadow, deep pink cheeks, magenta lipstick, foundation that's a shade lighter than her arms and neck, big fur...This whole ensemble might look good on a skinny European model but on a Chinese girl with small frame? I really don't get what they are going for.(I actually get it...Chinese night clubs hostess/aka prostitute back in late 80s/early 90s, right?)
Just so you know, Yuja Wang actually looks pretty decent (not girl-crush worthy though)...I first saw this picture from the Verbier festival website, not sure where it belongs to.

P.S.The first two pictures are borrowed Proud Magazine, click here for more disturbance, and there is also a horror in action Youtube video for the shoot.I posted a comment earlier joking (Nah, I was serious) how I wanted to "Shoot the stylist". Now comment section is closed. Just sayin...

P.P.S.Photography by Bert Spangemacher, the name of the stylist is being withheld to protect the accused (Although you can find it easily in the video clip).

Sally Hansen Hard as Nail and New Shades for Revlon

Sally Hansen Hard as Nail just got a new packaging,so does it mean that the  older ones are going on clearance soon?
A more clear/camera picture of their crackle over coat.
New nail color shades are also addes to Revlon. The names (Waterfall, Butterfly,Tulip...) of the new shades are so cute.

New Body Care Items At Walgreens

Gold Bond Ultimate Healing and Softening Lotion and Body Wash
Andes Nature Moisturizing Olive, Honey and Grape cream (2 bucks a piece)
For a moment I totally thought this was Aveeno, but it turns out that the brand Avena has been around since 1903...

Wet n Wild Inked and Mermaid's Cove Nail Color

Wet n Wild Crazed Nail Color collection Inked is a range of new shades (maybe they are LE) inspired by graffiti. The only shade I like is the coral on the top, I wish it has a creme finish(I didn't looke closely when I took the picture with my phone).
A range of new shades for their fastdry nail color line called Mermaid's Cove (what a pretty name!) and the stand-out piece for me would be the teal on second row.

Sally Hansen Crackle Overcoat Nail Color

Just spotted these Sally Hansen Crackle Over Coat Nail Color in our grocery store (If I say HEB many of you will just go WTH? By the way, it stands for Here Everything is Bigger Better and in our store it even has its own theme song...Speaking of big ego...Texas-sized.) and I really don't really get the why would people want to have their nails looking deliberately chipped. For people like me, who is mildly OCD (although my life style is the complete opposite of that, Joel Stein called it Don't-Give-a-Damn disorder), I will just pick them until all the pieces are gone...
Anyway(Yes,I like to switch topic abruptly), here is another picture of L'Oreal Summer Siren Collection (that contains more products that the one I posted).I am too fobby to bronze so here is another safe skip for me.

CoverGirl Natural Luxe Mousse Mascara and Intense Shadow Blast

Two new products are introduced by Covergirl this summer...So I guess no lip/cheek products?
Covergirl Intense Shadow Blast - a cream eyeshadow with a built-in primer. I would actually be interested in those (shimmering non-budging wash of shadow for the summer time, count me in!) if the color selection wasn't so boring *Yawns* .
Natural Luxe Mousse Mascara - I think I have read it on a news website that Covergirl Natural Luxe line (they are talking about its foundation specifically) is one of the 10 most deceiving "natural" ranges out there, as in "There is not really that many things natural about it". It doesn't concern me anyway since the packaging is a tad off-putting.

L'Oreal Jelly Balm Lip Gloss in Ripe

Ripe (an orange red that looks more or less clear on the lips) is the third (or fifth if I count the repurchase of same shade) Jelly Balm I got from the brand, I like the bright and juicy shade selection, cushiony texture and pretty shine it gives.
L'Oreal HIP Jelly Balm in Ripe
L'Oreal Jelly Balm in Ripe
Ripe by itself (with a tad bit of left over shimmer on my lip brush)
Ripe Jelly Balm with Maybelline Lipstick Coral Lustre

The whole line of Jelly Balm (along with their Colour Juice lip gloss) seems to be sacked from CVS, Walgreens and my grocery store but it's still available for purchase at L'Oreal USA website with a new title (Studio Secret Jelly Balm, same difference...)and for 9 dollars (You might as well pay a few more dollars and get a gloss from a higher-end brand, which will contain 3x the product compared to L'Oreal).

Burt's Bees Natural Acne Solution Spot Treatment

Burt's Bees Natural Acne Solution Spot Treatment is a natural zit-zapper containing Salicylic acid as the active ingredients. A few (many four?) years back I remember I was a huge fan of their roll-on blemish stick simply because I liked the herbal medicine smell (it doesn't work that well and it stings due to the alcohol content), even now I don't really need extra blemish treatment hanging around I was still happy when my roommate gave this to me.

Instead of the roller ball applicator, the Natural Acne Solution has dropper (?) to dispense the liquid. As for the actual content, it contains
Active Ingredient: Salicylic Acid (0.75%) Inactive Ingredients: alcohol denat., citrus medica limonum (lemon) peel oil, water, calendula officinalis flower extract, achillea millefolium (yarrow) extract, borago officinalis (borage) extract, carum petroselinum (parsley) extract, foeniculum vulgare (fennel) fruit oil, salix nigra (willow) bark extract, melaleuca alternifolia (tea tree) leaf oil, eucalyptus globulus leaf oil, juniperus communis fruit oil
The ingredient list is almost identical to that of their roll-on blemish stick so I kind of don't get what would they have two products in the range.Maybe someone just enjoys an extra step of using a cotton swab? Not me...
Actually, I do get what's the point of a new-but-not-really product. Since the new blemish treatment belongs to the "Natural Acne Solution" sub-line, you can use the 2 dollars off coupon with it!

Overall: It smells pretty nice (in a medical and weird way) and does sooth tiny (I really mean tiny) bumps and redness caused by acne. Other wise, it's useless (more like it will stop working after a few times) on bigger break out and stings pretty bad. I still like it though...because I am weird like that.

Essence Blush Brush with Synthetic Hair

Exactly how many blush brush does one need? Probably one. How many blush brush does a beauty addict need? Probably a few, one for each color family of blush. How many blush brush does a lazy beauty addict need? A few plus a few...so that she can get away with not washing them for a longer period of time.Anyway, here is my (n+1)th blush brush that I got to make my life easier, myself (even) lazier.
Essence Synthetic Hair Blush Brush, available for 3 dollars at my grocery store and ULTA, is a small blusher brush designed for their powder blushers. The palm sized brush measures 11.5cm/4.5inches, comes with quarter sized ferrule, black shiny handle and a roundly tapered tip that's just right for the apple of cheeks. The white synthetic hair is airy soft (not as smooth as Too Faced Retractable Kabuki Brush)resilient enough to hold its shape and isn't too slick to grab enough powder (what I experienced with the cheek brush from ELF, which is also 3 dollars).
Since Essence blush brush is designed for the Silky Touch Blush from the same line, it does a good job picking up firmly pressed powder blush in light shades but when working with more pigmented blushers, I find it doesn't give me the control precision I want since the tip isn't stiff (or hairy?) enough. Another little "flaw" would be white tip retaining too much colors (at least it looks like it's holding a lot of leftover) and consequently annoying the heck out of me..Luckily,it's easy to wash and dries rather quickly.

Overall: A great, soft (softer than Sonia Kashuk!) cheek brush that's perfect for lighter cheeks colors and tossing into your makeup bag. Don't expect it to be as nice as the Too Faced Retratable Kabuki (which isn't even the same type of brush)but for the price you pay, I can't nitpick about it(Ok, I think I did already).

Maybelline Color Sensational High Shine Lipstick in Coral Lustre

When I first started posting on the blog, Maybelline was pretty much my least favorite brand on the planet and to sum up my experience with the brand, it's pretty much "Nothing worked": The eye shadows were either too sheer or dusty, all their mascaras made me look like a raccoon, their express finish nail colors were(still are) runny like water and/or took  forever to dry...Three years has passed and look how it has evolved (into one of the major drugstore butt-kickers)!
Maybelline Color Sensational High Shine Lipstick has only be around for about a month or so,initially I was pretty scared of the idea of chunky glitter in a glossy base (at least that was my impression) but the beautiful color of Coral Lustre quickly won me over, not to mention I also heard about their improved scent from several online sources. The new range has the same light, flimsy tube as the old one but the lid is has a metallic coating that's (poorly done in many tubes)also prismatic(think "holographic" in nail polish...I don't use the word in other products since they has nothing to do with "recorded and reconstructed light"). Anyway, they managed to leave the top square alone so you can use it as a peephole, the pale purple might make the color a little off but it's a lot better than the deep brown, purple red or pink from their older range.
As mentioned earlier, for the new Color Sensational High Shine Lipstick Maybelline (finally heard our complaints and)got rid of the old Playdoh scent and replaced it with something much much nicer, many say it's citrus but I think it smells like orange Stardburst candy (that's more sweet than zest-like). Anyway, I guess different people react to different scents and for our discussion, the new Color Sensational High Shine smells pretty darn good...Enough babbling and straight to the lipstick...
Compared to other coral lipsticks I have,Coral Lustre is nothing like Maybelline Coral Crush(which is a good deal pinker, brighter and more pigmented), it has the same sheer, watery and sorbet-like texture as Paul and Joe Lipstick N(but it's more orange than Poppy). Tone wise, Coral Lustre is actually pretty similar to Revlon Coral Reef lip gloss that the two seem to be the warmest of the bunch. I also threw in Rimmel Coral Shimmer, Shiseido Maquillage (subtly metallic but very wearable) PK372 for comparison purpose. For me, it's difficult to pick which coral is better than the other as they are all quite unique on their owns.

Revlon New Comlexion Makeup

New products spotted (at least for me they are new) at my grocery store - Revlon New Complexion Makeup, which is supposed be in a weightless formula that lets skin breathe and all that good stuff. I am guessing it's kind of sheer as well?

Maybelline Great Lash Set and New Lip Gloss

Maybelline released a set with their Great Lash (which made me look like a raccoon)mascara and shine sensational lip gloss in a pink makeup bag.Looks like a way to get rid of their products that don't sell well...
As a part of the Color Sensational High Shine display, there are also five new shades of lip glosses that's being released. I really like the range (more so than their lipstick which has an borderline annoying smell)and am thinking about the two shades on the right.
