If you are familiar with my blog, you will know that I like to make fun of brands with decent/OK quality and boring shade selection/packaging/spoke model by calling them aunties brands. Revlon is one of the frequent victims.
You can't really blame me though, while there are several Revlon glosses that I absolutely adore, I have also gotten plenty of Revlon products that looks like it's taken from a 70 year old grandma's boudoir. Anyway, auntie brand or not, it doesn't stop me from collecting new toys when the price is right and this time, the toy is actually quite trendy: mauve lipstick!
Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Berry Haute (A new addition in the Super Lustrous family from the Fall 2009 Passion Fusion collection) comes in the standard black plastic tube, I am not a big fan of the packaging, but I do like it a lot better than those Maybelline color sensational lipstick tubes that get scratch easily. The bad thing (compared to Revlon's old packaging) is that they got rid of the peek hole at the top so there will be a lot of guess work involved if you want to get a grasp of how it looks like in store.
Berry Haute is my first Revlon Super Lustrous lipstick in cream finish (I had a shimmery red one called Peta-luminous and boy what a grandma shade it was.) while I don't know what exactly I am getting, I reckon it can't be any worse than the one I have gotten .
While the scent free formula is creamy and easy to apply, it's nowhere near the kind of melt-on-your-lips kind of creamy feel offered by more expensive French lipsticks and it definitely doesn't give a full coverage unless you load on 5+ layers.
Luckily, since Berry Haute is on the same league as my own lip color ( which is red with purple undertone) there is not much color mixing/meddling involved and it's quite flattering, once I ignored the fact that it somehow "enhanced" my purple skin.
To soften the death look and give a more moisturizing finish, I topped of the Revlon lipstick with a purple balmy gloss (or glossy balm) MAC lilac colored tendertone in Soft Note.
Overall, Revlon Super lustrous is a decent lip color for the price (3 bucks after coupon!) and the shade Berry Haute should look quite flattering on girls with neutral to cool skin tone. (I am not sure about how it will turn out on girls with warmer skin tone as there are certain shades of lilac that will turn golden skin sallow, this might be one of those shades.)
P.S. I just went to MAC counter (which is pretty close to Sephora, where I went for the lash curler) last week to check out the black lipstick (too black), the dazzle glass creme (too glittery) and some lilac/purple lipstick...Apparently the much buzzed Lavender Whip has joined the permanent display. I guess I have plenty of time to decide whether to get it or not.

where did you see lavender whip in the perm collection???I am dying to know, is it going to be perm???Its not on sale at mac's website...
ReplyDeleteI saw it at mac counter at Saks fifth avenue. The sales girl told me that it is in the permanent display now even it was released as LE. (Anyway, the color is always permanent in Europe anyway.)
