Whomee by Igari Lipstick - W. W.

With those millenial pink tubes, whimsical paper packaging (completed with cute drawing) and affordable pricing (most of their products are between 1200-1800yens), Whomee is a Japanese take on Glossier's minimal aesthetics - Maybe I shouldn't diss it as the quality of the Whomee is pretty darn good.

Having just celebrated its first anniversary, the brand has embraced lot of hype on social media and on magazine. Afterall, it's produced by makeup artist Igari Shinobu, an industry professional who pioneered various trends, most celebrated one being the hungover-blush.
During my last trip to Tokyo, I grabbed several of the toys  as the brand is rather hard to find online (it's on Ichibankao if you don't mind the high mark up).

My lipstick preference hasn't really changed much in the last ten years - Sheer red, juicy coral and bright pink are always my go to while I turn away from rosy or nude shades(because boring)...As much as I wanted to jump into the dried rose/Azuki bean paste bandwagon, many of them (gift with purchase minis) just look auntie mauve on me...
When I played with the Whomee tester at Tokyu Hand (or was it Plaza/Loft...one of those specialty beauty stores) - this particularly shade W.W caught my attention. It's a romantic sort of dry rose, free of shimmer, white base and with a warm(instead of mauve) undertone.
Swatching on the back of hand is quite different from wearing them on the mouth, so I prepped myself for failure...
A lot of Whomee (not all) products are named in random abbreviation. I am thinking WW might mean warm warm, only because there is another hot pink/fuchsia one that's named C.C.
This shade is a warm rose in a cream finish. While there is some coverage - I don't detect any white base and it melts into skin.
On the left half- WW is my lips, rosier and warmer. If you watch some school related J Drama where the Heroine seems completely Bare Faced but you think "She gotta be wearing something", WW is that kind of shade that look bare 3 feet away.
Whomee lipstick are designed to be worn sheer or full on (I did 2 layers here) - One layer is relatively light weight and the formula is (not wet) malleable enough that you can get the blotted effect by smacking. Lasting power is just alright, it just fades into a naturally blushed look.

As with most Japanese lip products, Whomee lipstick is fragrance free. Since this shade is so well done, I want to pick up those deep brown and hot pink next time.

    1. Standard satin cream but not as squishy (similar to YSL rouge pur couture but not as thin and slippery).
