NYX Megashine Lip Gloss in Tea Rose

When I picked up this NYX gloss at CVS, I thought I was getting a replacement of something I really liked back in the day...
Somewhere in my foggy memory, I was certain that I used to like a pale pink gloss and something Tea Rose by NYX.

After some digging, I realized that the Tea Rose I had was their  Lipstick  (it was a pretty pale but dusty pink) and the NYX Lip Gloss I had is called beige...I guess it's review time. Good thing I have a habit of photograph everything before using.
NYX Megashine Lip Gloss used to be one of the better gloss formula out there (then again the Maybelline Colorsentational, Revlon Super Lustrous and Sally Hansen were all pretty darn amazing) - They were somewhat of a thick gel, moisturizing, very pigmented (for the deeper shade I only need small drops to cover the whole area), succulent but not too sticky...

I was naive to expect it to be the same formula from 10 years ago but sadly, it's reformulated and lost its charm entirely.
NYX Tea Rose and Muji lipgloss in red. While the slightly cool pink is beautiful and spot on color for camellia, the formula turned into something that's watery, less pigmented and tingling (same way as Elf lip gloss and I hate it).

This is the sixth lip gloss reformulation (after Revlon Super Lustrous/colorburst, Stila Lip Glaze, Lancome Juicy Tubes, Diorkiss Gloss and Dior Addict liquistick) that completely ruined it for me. Every time, brands would be like "Oh these thick pigmented gel gloss are no longer in style. The watered down version is much more wearable!"  (They say it as if they are doing us a favor)...

After releasing the runny, gooey replacements...The whole range ended up getting sacked because people hate it so much. Then brands will be like "I told you glosses are out of style! "
I redipped several times just to get some coverage...Doesn't look terrible but I can get some proper glosses from Japanese drugstore brands.

What's interesting about this is that, the pigmented, thicker and glassy glosses can still be found easily if you turn around...Those previously drugstore formula now belong to luxury brands like Marc Jacobs, Fenty or Kevin Aucoin. Y'all, this is capitalism in a tube of lip gloss.

  1. I was gonna say. Chanel Glossimer is probably the only that went the other way around after reformulation. It was pretty thin before but now the formula is cushy and rich although I can't say it's super pigmented. The Pat Mcgrath lip glosses are pretty thick and gel like from what I've experienced lately.

    2. You mean the "Aphrodite"? It's avail on the Chanel us site (as well as the shimmery one)! Chanel is increasing the price soon and they never go on sale so maybe now's the time ;D

    3. Oh I meant fraicheur...and it's actually there! I stopped by two counters and they were there...time to cave in again. Two or three years ago I wanted the code subtil and it was sold out in store. Ended up getting another permanent quad that (I didn't even touching) ....Iguess there are so many makeup out there I will stick to limited edition shades...

  2. Did you see the new Lancome Juicy Tubes just released? They brought it back. I wonder if it's same formula though.

    1. I am more inclined to believe that it's the formula from 2015ish...Making 2005 formula, having humongous tube and only charge 20 bucks. Things like that don't go with LOreal lol...

Anyway, I did buy an ancient Diorkiss gloss off ebay. Their formula isn't as nice as old Juicy tube but they got lots of wacky colors that I dig.

Anyway, I feel that Whomee lip Treatment is pretty similar to how juicy tube sits (13 bucks) and so is Ettusais. Anyway, I bought a full sized gloss from Fenty and it's giving me some excitement ($19, 9ml and color and formula are nice)and it broke me no Sephora buy this year.

  3. OMG I remember xteeener used to use the Tea Rose lipstick when she used to make videos. I actually own it bc of her (lol). The lip gloss looks nice, I remember owning 2 of these like 12 years ago and they smelled like cherries (back in my high school days when I knew nothing about makeup really)
