Just a few days ago, I mentioned how I love Dior lippies (compared to other brands) and while I was making some other purchase (eye shadow palette again), I picked some lip color testers. The Lacquer Plump is their new liquid lip color, replacing Fluid Stick. It was somewhat remarkable that it doesn't have a stellar rating (Sephora removes quite a bit of negative ratings so a 3.5/5 is actually pretty terrible). I was wonder how bad it can get and thinking maybe it got a low score simply because it's too different from its predecessor (this part is true, and the formula is indeed craptastic).
For the tester, there are three shades, one okay for work and play and the rest are suitable for dragqueen.
456 Dior Pretty is a muted berry (not unlike Fluid Stick in Chic) - The formula is thinner, less pigmented than Fluid Stick. The texture slightly creamy liquid that feels like a thin watery balm and wear off real fast. It slips off lip boundary easily and just sits on the lip lines, leaving a bit of stain underneath. What's really interesting about this formula is that it turns milky and gross upon contact with liquid/saliva, giving off a disgusting taste and look. I consider it a fatal design flaw since how can I avoid contact with saliva?!
The shade Dior Pretty is much cooler (hello grandma magenta!) while it's not too dated, I am not a big fan.
676 Dior Fever is a deep fuchsia with strong blue pearl (same problem getting milky) - This leaves a very strong fuchsia hot pink stain that's equally unwearable. You can get a little peek of it in the below picture.
538 Dior Glitz is a product of curiousity - For a gloss, it's almost textually undetectable : There is no base color to it, the hot pink was the stain from the Dior Fever. After layers and layers, all I get is a patches of gilded dandruff. Removal is a pain in the ass: Instead of getting wiped off by damp cotton pad, this just smear allover, giving me a golden mustache.
Why Dior? Why?!
Why Dior? Why?!
Sephora deleted negative ratings? Not surprised but now those low 4s must not be great -_-
ReplyDeleteThey don't delete existing negative ratings but (after reading about it on reddits and other boards), they moderate it, putting many negative reviews on hold and don't publish them. It make sense since the reviews there were to "help" you but stuff, not the other way.
DeleteI never bother to write reviews unless it's utterly terrible, I remember putting a 1/5 for a set, $38 for a few tiny sample sized... After I hit submit, it was never published (even I think and sounded pretty civil/more civil than blogging). I tried again it's still just dissapeared.
From my experience most of their mediocre products are around 4/5...Below four is usually pretty bad. If you see 2/5 overall...It's more like every one gave it a one.
Thanks for the review! I was hoping this would be the more pigmented version of Fluid Stick (not that Fluid Stick wasn't pigmented enough) but I am not even curious now you say the formula is terrible.
ReplyDeleteMaybe it's just these three shades (but are indeed pigmented since it got the stain underneath) ...
DeleteInitially I wasn't interested because of the shade selection. But now looking back on internet reviews from cheerleader bloggers (reviewing PR samples), even they said nothing negative I can see the swatch pictures are downright gross...
I was going to say, Dior in the past few years has reformulated/repackaged everything from their foundations to lipsticks to perfumes. I only first started buying Dior makeup in 2015 and already they have redone everything. They have brought out so many new lip products (like Dior Addict Shine, Lacquer Shine, Double Rouge, Lip Tattoo etc) that I've lost count and stopped trying to keep up with their rat race lolz. I've dabbled in their mascaras tried a bunch, it's average not worth buying, sorry but Lancome waterproof mascaras are the king sh*t. I only like their Dior Forever foundation which I found the new 2019 reformulation was good, but then there's other brands like Lancome, EL etc who make good foundations too. Their powders are nice, I've tried Dior Forever powder foundation and the Nude Air powder silver compact, nice but way too expensive...speaking of powders I have found replacement for Lancome Dual Finish Powder....I told you before but I'm using Clarins Ever Matte Powder and the Nars pressed powder...the Nars powder is really nice, being Shiseido owned you'd expect it to be nice- it's very fine milled but does add a bit of coverage too. It's really expensive $57aud for only 8g but then again Dior and Chanel powders cost even more.
ReplyDeleteI also went to Sephora and bought the Zoeva face brush 110, Lisa Eldridge favourite foundation brush. It's actually really good and it was only $25aud. If this was Dior or Chanel they'll be charging $70+. It's the perfect buffing foundation brush no wonder she likes it so much.
Now I feel bad not catching the Sephora flash sale, there was a week when all lancome mascara was half off, by the time I saw it everything was sold out...It's hard justifying buying highend mascara when I am too lazy for them most of the time.
ReplyDeleteOmg i saw even more new Dior lip products coming out on Instagram. You know those Dior Rouge Ultra lipsticks in the red bullet that came out last year? Now there's an "Ultra Care" version infused with "flower oil" and a liquid lipstick version eyeroll. I never bought the Ultra Rouge lipsticks, texture felt really thin and slippery and tiny amount of product 3.2g. Same with Lancome lipsticks the previous version contained like 4g of product now the new ones which came out in 2016 only contained 3.4g. And their new Mademoiselle Shine lipsticks are crap I swatched them they just like the Loreal Color Riche Shine lipsticks or the Maybelline Shine version. Even the previous Shine Lover version in the plain white tube was far more superior. Stick with their original Labsolu Rouge lipsticks they still the best lipsticks.
ReplyDeleteI also wanted to say they completely butchered the Dior Addict lipstick range. So I told you already they discontinued the 2015 version 3.4g (with Jennifer Lawrence as the face) which wasn't long ago and now reformulated/renamed it Dior Addict Stellsr Shine with only 3.2g this year with Cara D as the model. Omg it's a hot stinkin mess, the texture is so thin n slippery too. 2 or so years ago they also launched Dior Addict Lacquer Stick in the black n pink tube with that Bella Hadid chick and that was same old story.
ReplyDeleteI was browsing lipsticks and saw the Shiseido Visionary Gel lipsticks and they contain 1.6g of product...literally laughing my brains out...
ReplyDeleteI actually don't mind the weight that much because it takes me a while to finish 3.8g lipstick anyway. My main gripe about the visionary gel is the color selection, I really wanted to try one shade but I couldn't even find one shade I was remotely interested in.
DeleteApparently Revlon have also reformulated their Super Lustrous lipglosses...It's now called Super Lustrous The Gloss in updated packaging. And apparently the formula is thinner and less sticky too...hmmm scratches chin...I wonder if it's better or worse...If you go to drugstore maybe check it out if you see it.
ReplyDeleteI was also browsing Dior makeup online and they now have jacked up their lipsticks to...$56aud...nosebleed wtf...Lancome is currently $54 but you bet the price will go up again. Honestly these days I'll rather spend $$$ on a good high end foundation than buying high end lipsticks...
I have seen those Revlon glosses but there isn't a shade I see myself wearing so no purchase so far. Maybelline also renewed the color of Colortattoo eyeshadow, I got one and the shade isn't as pretty as the previous version but not toobad either.
