Marc Jacobs Gloss in Rah Rah

Another day, another mini.

From my trips to Sephora, it seems that Marc Jacobs has a pretty extensive range of lip gloss (the full title is Enamoured High Shine Lip Lacquer Lip Gloss) that encompasses nudes, brights and dramatic purple (let's pretend we never see that kind of shades from Maybelline or L'Oreal). I have swatched them in store and liked some of the bright pink and orange.
When I saw Sephora was having Rah Rah as gift with purchase. I thought it would be a great opportunity to test the formula. It was also done for my lippie (packaging) hoarder self, as the mini is essentially a scaled down version of the full sized tube.
Rah Rah is an opaque cantaloupe that's a good deal lighter than my lip color but doesn't turn deathly nude. The gloss is somewhat thick but not overly sticky. It's not instantly quenching but during the wear time, it soften the dead skin on the lips and make them easily removed by the end of the wear. There is a mint scent and give a bit of cooling sensation.

The applicator is a flexible flabby sponge tips that's great at spreading the somewhat thick gloss.
On the lips, the color appears milky but it's expected with shade much lighter than my natural lip color. It's a very good formula (having won two Allure Best of Beauty awards, if that means anything) that's too similar to the old, square tube Revlon Super Lustrous Lip Gloss. I suppose if I were an editor of a magazine, I would have given Revlon Super Lustrous and Colorburst all sorts of awards...

The Super Lustrous is long gone. While I miss the range dearly, I have since moved on (a very easy thing to do thanks to brands like Canmake). I never see myself paying 28 dollars for Marc Jacobs when I used to pay 3 dollars for my Revlon (they were 6 dollars at my grocery store and always went on sale). The old Super Lustrous packaging was also much nicer than MJ gloss...

  1. Speaking of Canmake, I've even stopped buying their Candy Wrap Lips. The only 3 things I get from Canmake now are the Balm Rouge (3 new "tint" colors that are supposed to stain!), the Cream Cheeks, and the Lip & Cheek Gels.

    1. I am waiting on the tint rouge to show up (on the two HK sites I shop at) as well but no luck so far! However, I grabbed the new (day and night) face powder that looks like a sailor moon costume...

  2. Wow, that colour is gorgeous. Right up my alley. Sadly, none of the drugstore brands make pretty nudes pinks like that anymore. Everyone is competing to make the loudest most brighest colour available. If I want something like that these days, I have to look at high end brands like Dior, Lancôme etc. Revlon is doing really bad financially. My face has gone really dry in recent years and I stopped using their foundations and haven't found anything from them that's suitable ever since. Same thing with MAC cosmetics. Kinda outgrew them.

    1. Now I don't even see lancome lip lover around (I hate their reformulated juicy tubes). I got two Revlon lip products during a sale and clearance. I am still debating if I should waste my time swatching reviewing them...or just throw them away.

  3. My favourite lip gloss these days is the Lancôme lip lover glosses. Not as thick as Revlon super lustrous but thicker than colorburst gloss.

  4. The Revlon ultra HD lip lacquers aren't bad, they just are really thick and tacky and feel really heavy.

  5. What is your Canmake replacement for Revlon Super Lustrous? Now I started wearing gloss again, I really miss Super Lustrous, plus I really like Canmake stuff.

My friend is actually a fan of MJ lip gloss. I haven't even tried one, but she says it is a slightly better version of GA (which I like a lot except for the price).

    1. Canmake doesn't have a dupe for Super Lustrous actually, but they make great lippies for single digit prices (at least much better than other Japanese glosses). I hauled a bunch of stay on balm rouges and also going to try the lip tint syrup...Their lip and cheek gel feels really nice too but when I get a dual use product I only use it on cheek.

I suppose the other Marc Jacobs glosses could be much better than Rah Rah(but I doubt it) but the packaging is also stopping me from trying it.
