Coppertone Clearly Sheer Sunscreen SPF 30

Confession time - I had been a sunscreen slacker for a whole year. Well, last summer I only had a bottle of Neutrogena (run in my eyes and break me out during summer) and Shiseido Urban Environment (the pasty formula made me look like a geisha) so it wasn't all that fun using them.

This year, I am determined to make a change so I hauled a few (I think...five?) to get myself covered. Before pulling out the hardcore SPF 50, PA++++ ones, I think I need something mellow for the early spring (it's around 70F/22C today, this is way too hot).
This Coppertone Clearly Sheer Faces Sunscreen was last bottle on the CVS shelf, it must means it's good right (or it could be that's just a really busy CVS). The little yellow bottle looks adorable, with that slightly frosted plastic and little pump and I had a coupon, burning a hole in my pocket, so I brought it home with no prior knowledge of this (See? My mobile data comes whenever it feels like it so I couldn't even look up review on the spot).

Coppertone Clearly Sheer Faces is a light-weight sun lotion that's lightly hydrating. It's considerably less greasy than most American sunscreen out there, but it still manages to be somewhat emollient (reads: I can feel the oil but it get soaked up rather quickly on cooler days).  On the face, it dries up matte with minimal white cast and it's smooth enough of a base for concealer and cream/powder blush.
The lotion has fresh artificial scent (Oceanic cucumber melon? How am I supposed to describe a scent if it's synthesized anyway...)that's pleasant enough but I could do without. I normally use two pump to not get too oiled-up, but even with two, there is some major eraser crumbing action going on. I think it's probably the dimethicone, starch and beewax in the ingredients...

Aside from the crumbing, it's very comfortable to wear and give me a sense of protection (Oh, I tan no matter what so I can't review for sunscreen's effectiveness). I like it for the cooler early spring but now it just feels a wee bit -coney. Overall: For an American sunscreen, I like it enough to keep using it (might ended up putting in on my legs) but I guess I would still prefer spending 12 bucks on Japanese sunscreen.

Comments

  1. I think Coppertone sunscreens have a bit of a reputation for being a big "crumbly."

I used to use Coppertone's Oil-free Faces Sunscreen Lotion, and had to stop because it would practically roll off my skin.

I'm using Neutrogena's Clear Face Sunscreen now... it's definitely not the most amazing product out there, but at least it stays on my skin. >//<

    1. Yeah...Another problem (it happens to all American sunscreen) is that it also run in my eyes and stings like crazy...Asian eyes problem?
