St. Ives Fresh Skin Apricot Scrub

St. Ives apricot scrub is one of the products that I have been using for years and years (10 to be exact) - Not that it's amazing for what it does (many Japanese whitening cleansers offers gentle exfoliating action that gives a noticeable surface brightening), it's simply cheap and get the job (sanding) done and doesn't seem too abrasive (compared to the first scrub I used...salt-water mixture).
Recently, St. Ives reformatted the scrub so now it's free of sodium laureth sulfate, a "cheap" foaming agent. (It also seems that they have got rid of the for sensitive skin version, leaving only the regular and the invigorating one contains salicylic acid. So I guess I have to deal with the regular version now...

First off, the new Fresh Skin scrub smells exactly like the old one, with a strong sour fruit (probably apricot) scent (reason number one why I settled for the for sensitive skin version, which has a smells that's not as bothersome). The grain size and ingredient (crush walnut) is also kept the same, a little too big for my liking (but work well on legs and feet). They last similarity between the old and new one is that after I rinse it off, there is a very thin oil-like residue (that gave me white-heads every time after I use it). I am not sure if I get that with the old version, as I stopped using that on my face long while ago.

The most noticeable difference would be the base that's holding the scrub, as the new base is noticeably squishier and thinner. As the scrub is smoothed out, more of the beads are in contact with skin, not buffered/lubricated. So it turns out that the newer scrub is even harsher than the old ones in the regular formula (which I stopped buying immediately when I knew there was a gentler version available).

Overall: Hate it (more like I hate St. Ives for discontinuing the gentle version) but I guess the back of the feet wouldn't mind the strong scent, residue or the abrasive beads.

  2. The sensative skin formula is not discontinued maybe it just came out later than the original formula. Walmart is selling 2 for 6$ right now of each version not bad! I only used the sensative formula for 3 years straight until I tried the green tea and it's much better for my sensative skin, the beads are smaller and it feels as though there a few sizes of beads. The formula itself is completely different than any of their others but in a great way! The smell (FDA does not regulate the ingredients in skin care so the word fragrance could literally be hundred thousands of unknown chemical! It could be dog poop cuz technically it is a fragrance. It is a huge loophole it's dangerous! Im not even kidding look it up u will throw away everything u have like I did) the smell isn't bad and at least it tells u that the fragrance is from a USDA approved organic source. I didn't break out which is a miracle try it it's worth the 99 cents for a travel. Love the blog:)
