Nars Duo Eyeshadow in Tokyo

From the same friend who gave me the super pretty Habanera Duo (I am only taking about the sea foam green) here is another Nars eyeshadow. What in the world does it has to do with Tokyo?
When I first open the Nars Tokyo Eyeshadow Duo, I just wonder does it gets any duller than this combo? I mean, matte grayish white chalk and dusty lilac chalk...

The main complain from my friend is that she couldn't get the color to show up no matter how hard she digs, but that is not really an issue for me. Personally, I would prefer the color not to show up at all, I mean, who wears chalky white and dusty pigeon purple gray on their eyes anyway? (Not to mention the chalk duo costs 32 bucks plus tax...)

The color of the two shadow are not that sheer, but (at least for me) both shades are very close to skin tone, so you are not getting that much color impact even you layer a butt load of this. It's like laying on foundation is not supposed to give you darker skin tone, rather, a better coverage or (in my case) more of a cake-y finish. The two colors also turn out to be slightly shimmery and once they go on, the finish are not really chalky as seen in the pans.

There is one thing that's really special about the duo is that, they are the most low-key eye color I own so far. I mean the color, not pigmentation, are a lot more neutral than any "neutral colors" such as beige, brown and champagne I have tried. I can wear the dusty lilac as a contour color to add depth without the obvious trace of make-up I get from brown. ( Actually I have yet to find a brown that doesn't look rusty or poopy ) The white is a pretty subtle highlight as well.

Overall, Nars Tokyo is a nice your-eyes-but-better shadow that gives a polished, clean-up office lady look. My personally thoughts are:

1) if it's so natural that it barely shows even when people are up close, let alone on camera. I might as well just save myself that one minute and just leave my eyes bare...For me, I never get the point of spending 30 minutes to put on makeup only to look like you are not wearing anything at all.

2)Office lady look...Please, my ultimate goal is to get away with wearing freebie t-shirt, shorts and sneakers all my life...Which mean, I want to be a University geek math professor...No way...

3)$32...I would rather buy half of a Lunasol or Guerlain palette (99% of the time I only like 1 or 2 shades from a palette, that's why I prefer single eye color) than a duo like this ...

  1. NARS is overpriced most of the time. The only NARS item I ever owned was NARS Orgasm...and it wasn't even that incredible.

I think Nars is just overrated in general but there are a few shades that are very unique and pretty, still doesn't worth the bloody price...

I never even think about getting "orgasm" because the name is way too gimmick-sounding plus I will be embarrassed to ask for it at the counter...

I got "Super Orgasm" though, because of the insane glitters...

But yes, the price isn't fair.

Personally, I don't get the point spending money on makeup that's etremly low-key...let along it's actually 32 bucks...

Tell you the truth, I personally don't find the colors that special, I prefer straight lilac without the gray tone...

When I first got it, I was thinking that I would hit pan on this since it's so neutral and I can never go wrong with this...then I was like, why bother putting it on then...
