Revlon Matte Eye Shadow in Venetian Blue

I am always a bit hesitant when it comes to buying drugstore eye shadow (although Wet n Wild Trio became a pleasant surprise) they are usually chalky in texture and have ugly packaging ...not the mention the colors are tacky and the color payoff is rarely ideal. But when I was passing by the beauty session of the grocery store a while ago, a new line-up of Revlon matte shadow caught my eyes.

Revlon Matte Eye Shadow in Venetian Blue. (Is it the sky or it's the shadow?) The matte shadow come in a slightly new packaging, which looks and feel pretty substantial (unlike cheap plastic) and the shadow in the pan is shaped in a zigzag pattern, pretty don't you think?

As you can see, venetian blue is a very vibrant turquoise with absolutely no shimmer once you apply it (you can see a tad bit in the pan) sheen , not even a velvet finish. The color is very pretty on the pan and it stood out from the rest of the line immediately.

The color is like what the model is wearing in the February 2008 cover of free people (picture borrowed from their web blog)

Or this YSL poster featuring Tresor D'Afrique palette.

The texture, is quite smooth (for a drugstore shadow) and it's easy to apply. One thing I didn't like was that it adheres to the brush way too well that makes it difficult to do a quick clean up for the brushes, you have to wash it after each use or that a tiny trace of the shadow will mess up you application of other color.

Also, since I am spoiled by the wet-dry ability of Stila shadow, I tried to dip a damp brush in but it actually makes the color muddy and runny.

But that's not too much of a complain for something that's 1/4 the price of Stila, is it? Anyway, a cool color, and this shadow also confirmed the fact that I cannot pull of any blue shadow...nada...

  2. Hi Fuzz:
The popping color was the main reason I picked it up...although I have no clue how to use it except for eyeliner...(but it doesn't give a very precise line nor it can be used wet...)So it's actually another "bleh" shadow I have...

Well, you do have some nice blending skill so I guess it would be fun for you to give it a go...As for me,I can only wear bright clothes, not bright shadows...

  6. Personally I think that looks really nice and could offer real good opportunities for wearing colourful clothing.

It does look gorgeous in the pan but it pops way too well on my face...not a good thing for a minimalist.
