From a certified Glossier hater, I caved again. This time I blame it on the current situation (lipstick sale soars in times of economic recession) and the fact that I have gotten plenty of free time to take glamour shots by the neighborhood bushes.
Actually I was just enabled by Weibo. A few weeks ago, a user (not a big name, just an average makeup lover) I follow mentioned how the lipsticks by Glossier is her favorite formula of the year, it got my a little curious...After doing some search, the reviews were mostly from nobodies (like me) and entirely positive.
Since it's Weibo, I didn't have to worry about them being those infamous "Glossier Rep" (people who give recommendations and received $10 store credit...). I hopped on to the site right and grabbed two, I wanted one of those matte cream shadow but they looked patchy as hell.
Behold the new and improved version of the Generation G. While the formula remains the same, the packaging went from a light, flimsy white tube (that reminds me of the mentholatum softlips back in the day) to a pretty sleek one with a nice bit of heft. It seems that they increased the product amount from 1g (then to 2 before increasing it to the standard) 3grams.
On the top there is a G and the cap is actually "lined" with an extra layer of plastic sleeve. It closes securely and doesn't seem to be prone to crack like the old version. For the (not exactly cheap) price of $18 a piece, I am happy that it has a look and feel that's reflective of the cost.
My first impression of Glossier Generation G is the scent - It's a weird take on powdery floral. Actually it smells like grandmav plus lip gloss gone bad (after being soiled by saliva), at first I thought it was a bad batch but after opening the other one, this is just how it smells.
Cake is an unassuming medium brownish apricot that I would normally look pass (because the half dozen of brown lipsticks I had and most look like turd...Sorry). I picked this shade mainly because it's the most mentioned one among Chinese users.
Three brown lipsticks I have: Innisfree Real Fit lipstick (this one looks really poopy on ), Cake and Lavshuca Brown Red (an ancient artifact as it still has the Romantic lolita packaging).
The Generation G is very lightweight, matte but with some clarity. Each swipe yields a veil of color that's like a silk chiffon - It's completely dry touch, doesn't sink into the lip lines and wears surprisingly long (half a day/before I need to eat or drink) and remains comfortable.
On the lips, Cake is my lips my peachier. It looks healthy and rather flattering. The shade also goes perfectly with the sheer matte texture (I tried gloss it over and it didn't look great). You can add more layer for a retro look but I prefer it sheer.
And I know why this shade is so popular among Chinese...Remember around two or three years ago, some magazines were claiming that the perfect natural lip color is one that matches your nipple? Cake probably is potentially the perfect titty shade for East Asian coloring.
Cake on top of a flustered mouth (after a lip product swatch-a-thon) I think the red also came from the base stain of Romand lip tint (Nudy Peanut).
This is a unique, wearable formula that's actually quite forgiving (doesn't make my lip worse, light enough that it goes with no base makeup). Most Glossier things are overpriced but I do like this particular formula...The fact that I, the lipstick snob, have four of them says something.
Lastly, don't forget to click here to get 10% on your first purchase...Just kidding. You get 10% off anyway... That's the link to Covid19 tally (that I visit three times a day out of compulsion).
Hahahah this lipstick name. I bought a perfume from Glossier but none of their products really interest me
ReplyDeleteFor most of the glossier products they are overcharging by 100%...The gen G still feels
Deletelike $7-8 but the colors are nice and the packaging quality is very good...I wouldn't mind if they expand the shade range further (a dried rose and orange coral in that formula would be nice).
Gah. Why you tempt me again??? All these nice lippies!
ReplyDeleteWhen I told you I got a bunch of lipsticks...they are mostly glossier(international sellers aren't shipping). The texture isn't superb but they are very wearable...like how I have a bunch of Lunasol/Suqqu but my most used palettes are ones from Majolica Majorca and Visee.
DeleteI checked out their color lineup and there's one red that looks nice but there's no orange or coral. Meanwhile, there are several pinks...
DeleteZip is the only red but it's rather orange coral...Yeah there are three pinkish shades (I got two because I was curious about bright pink and maybe it wont go magenta on me/ well formulated Japanese shades stay hot pink and plum....)
DeleteI'll wait for you to post the two pinks ^.^
