YSL Rouge Pur Couture in 70 Le Nu

If you are a subscriber/victim of Sephora's weekly spam email, you would know that they offer gift with purchases with $25/$35 purchases. Whenever I saw mini lipsticks, I jumped (that's how I ended up with a dozen of high end minis). Around two or three summers ago, the promotion was for a mini YSL Rouge Pur Couture...

Rouge Pur Couture had some of a star status in Asia, thanks to K Drama My Love from the Star. #52 Rouge Rose was called the Cheong Song Yi shade by many.

I know better (if you are Jeong Ji Hyun, everything looks good, including that white based neon pinkish coral of doom) to buy based on hype so I waited for a promotion to add Rouge Pur into my collection, of lipstick packaging.
Unlike Bobbi Brown or Bites (whose lipstick minis are scaled down version of the full sized tube)...YSL Minis (be it perfume or lipstick) are kiddie toy version of the real deal - If they weren't straight from Sephora, I would totally think they came from a Chinese wholesale flea market (that sells maga hats, US flags and face masks for Halloween). The gold plated plastic really feels that bad.
When it comes to Sephora freebie, 90% of the time it's either bold red, grandma mauve or magenta, so it was refreshing they picked a nude shade this time.
70 Le Nu is a semi opaque neutral (I can see both peachy warmth a touch of rose in the base tone) with very fine shimmer. The shimmer is extremely subtle and despite being a nude shade, it has no stark white base underneath.

I find it rather cocky when brands name their shades "The Red"or "le Nu" and they somehow ended up convincing me when the shade actually hits the spot.
While le Nu is quite well thought out, the formula is very typical YSL - Thin, slippery one that sits on top and draws out moisture as it slowly wears away. Their formula is the main thing keeping me away from spending $38 on YSL.

  1. HAHAHAAH “victim”
I actually own 2 of these full sized lipsticks, I have #52 too 😂 these are actually my favorite high end lipsticks. I love the fragrance. I use #52 a lot the Korean way (not fully applied)

    1. Oops I mispelled....

I love loading on lip products so that shade will never work on me...I can see it's a really boss lady style Queen kind of shade though.

  2. That's a pretty nude, although way too opaque for me. And remember our discussion about artificially moisturizing being used to describe a lot YSL lippies? Now that I own a few, I totally agree. Will have to post these soonish...

    1. Haha I didn't know you actually have YSL lippies (can't blame you that they have some beautiful shades... There are two Chinese phrases to describe fake moisturizing lipsticks 假润,拔干(lipstick that actively pulls out moisture) and the combo is used exclusivly on YSL ...I saw someone saying "YSL makes colors with their heart and make lipsticks (formula) with their feet". Can't agree more.

    2. LOL yikes if YSL really did make the formula with their feet I might want to get rid of mine. I just got 3 colors to try since lots of people rave about them but nope, nowhere as good as some of the drugstore lippies, which is really too bad.

    1. Hi there Sushi long time no see (I missed seeing your mini novels)! YSL is indeed too pricey but gotta say I do like the way they mix shades. Anyway I haven't actually purchased anything YSL after the coral oil in stick...like 4 years ago? This year I am avoiding online purchases from Sephora altogether, wasted too much money for those minis I don't wear anyway.

Hope you are doing well, at least safe and healthy.

  4. Lolz I'm safe and doing fine, I'm still trying to figure out my skincare and makeup routine, I've got it nearly sorted out. The shops here are starting to reopen as the lockdown eases. The toilet paper hoarding has officially ended in Australia lolz. Everyone is just so over it no one is buying it anymore. We have plexiglass screens installed at the supermarkets and at our work too. And we have the count the number of ppl allowed into our store because of social distancing...but people aren't even social distancing, they already acting like it all over because the death rate here is relatively low wtf. But that because our population is only like 22m. I reckon Sephora will be hit really hard by the coronavirus. I heard a number of department stores in America have filed for bankruptcy n some 30m have lost their jobs...Everyone hates China now, ppl are more racist than ever because if it. Do you believe the conspiracy theories that it came from a Wuhan lab?

My skincare routine I still using Drunk Elephant C Firma serum in the day. I'm also trying to use up my Lancome Advanced Genifique samples as they are years old lolz. For sunscreen I'm still using La Roche Posay Anthelios XL- i quite like it now as my skin has gotten used to it and it uses Mexoryl filters, I tried going back to Skinstitut Age Defence SPF 50 but it's way too greasy, it contains the best Tinosorb filters known to mankind but it's just too inelegant.

I bought the SKii Facial Treatment Essence last week lolz. I'm a little worried because you said the Missha one thinned out your skin...I've only used it couple of times but it makes my face really soft n supple...at night I mainly use nianicimide products lolz. I bought new Olay ProX spot fading serum which is higher end Olay line. It's expensive $70 but it really works. Already 2 weeks i can see difference skin just looks more clearer. I'm hoping combined with the SKii FTE I can see some results. I'm saving up to buy the SKii Genoptics Aura Essence next but right now using Olay ProX. If the SKii works out I don't need to waste money on other useless crap that's how I'm thinking.

I'm still using my HG Lancome Teint Idole Ultra Wear foundation in 370W. Lolz I don't think I can use anything else it's that good...all my other foundations is in graveyard but I don't plan on digging them up anytime soon...either it's wrong shade, too thick, too thin, irritates my skin, sits badly on my fine lines n texture...life too short to be wearing shitty foundation. All I need to figure out is which powders to set it which I still haven't figured out yet.

    1. Haha my view is completely biased... Anyway, personally I don't trust "regular reporting" from the mainstream media here...They keep repeating the same thing so that people take it as undisputed truth. Two months ago they kept going and going how "Nah you don't need a mask" for months, my friend got rediculed for wearing one by an elderly woman. (Asians got kicked out of store for wearing mask in Canada)...Now they just tell you to DIY and put a nylon stocking over it.

Back in January the media kept reassuring "That very bad cold you had in Jan is definitely just a cold, not corona at all" Now Florida just showed that some patient with positive samples was dated from January... If they are so keen on reporting conspiracy theory on a lab locates at the other side of the world, why didn't they investigate those mysterious outbreaks July last year in Virginia? (This was from local news here last year)

      https://www.wjla.com/amp/news/local/second-fairfax-co-retirement-community-suffers-respiratory-illness-outbreak

NPR was even blaming 1918 flu pandemic on China (as one of the three "equally" probable origins)...No matter what the outcome is, it will always be China's fault no matter how I reason with the people (who think media is indepedent and free)...
