Rimmel Exaggerate Undercover Shadow Primer

Rimmel Exaggerate Undercover Shadow Primer was just released in the US not too long ago, I bought it on a whim because I was experimenting with eyeshadow (not to mention a primed lid actually makes eyeliner workable on me) and somebody mentioned it could possibly be a dupe for the Nars primer.  Anyway, the Rimmel primer has since taught me an important lesson, to always keep an receipt and original packaging when I buy things from CVS.
The Rimmel primer comes in a cute red-and-white plastic packaging. Even though it's more affordable at 5 bucks a piece (compared to Milani) but there is only 6ml of product (instead of 9-10ml on Milani) so the unit price is actually higher. It's dispensed with wand applicator (not the most economical in the long run, but I never finished primer anyway). People probably say that it's similar to Nars due to the same doe-foot applicator and similar appearance.

This has a wet and silicone-y texture (think 80% silicone grease with some other shimmery fillers like mica and TiO2...Except silicone is already a filler) that stays a little damp and leaves some sheen (and white cast, if your skin tone is deeper) after blending, being already in humid south Texas, having this on the skin is a little disgusting. Anyway, given that powder eyeshadow usually applies better on a damp surface, this indeed make the color a little more vibrant.
The first time I used this, it was put on bare lid before Maybelline Color Tattoo Bad to Bronze, I then blended a metallic rose pink on the edges, to powder-seal the cream base. By the 5th hour of wear, I noticed that a good chunk (60-70%) of the color were either flaked off or faded away, which is silly given how Color Tattoo usually stay on more than 5hr just by itself. I gave it the benefit of the doubt and assume that maybe two products of similar nature might have had a destructive interference (But heck, according to the back of the packaging, it "works with powders, gloss and cream textures). I gave it another go with powder shadow only and everything melted by the third hours...

Overall:On my own (hooded and oily) lids, this is an epic fail. Normally I would say "Straight to the garbage it goes", but I think I will use use it all up. After all, it's highly effective removing stubborn cream shadow swatches (neither Maybelline Color Tattoo or Milani Shadow Eyez come off with wet wipe) when applied on top of them.

  1. Thanks so much for the review and I too have the same issues with this primer on my oily hooded lids. I love your suggestion on using this product to remove stubborn cream shadow swatches. :)

    1. I have read quite a few positive reviews and they really puzzle me (I mean, I really thought this was one of those universally shitty products)I guess it works as a smoothing primer for those who have dry lids?
