Rouge Dior in 999 Red

From my limited knowledge of red lipsticks, I know Dior is another one of those classic red. Sephora was offering it as a gift with purchase (I wasted so much money for those "gifts") so...I should have saved all those on trips instead.
Dior 666 ( Edit It's 999 clearly I read it upside down) is a neutral red with a dry touch satin finish. There is an old fashion lipstick smell and zero pearly particle.
The formula is comfortable for summer (not moisturizing or drying), thin, somewhat waxy and moderately pigmented. I can build it up to full coverage with two to three swipe and it's possible to get a slightly a more natural, blotted finish. There is some opacity but none of that trashy white base (a easy way to tell is how it sits where the lips meet, if there is a straight line between the inner mouth and lip, that's the pasty white pigment doing its dirty deed).
So after wearing it for few times, I see its hype. While the formula isn't moisturizing or cushiony, the satin thin finish pairs perfectly with the true red. The shade itself is skin brightening and flatering even on bare face.  The only thing I didn't like is that it does leave a light stain behind, it's not full on bloody-mouth like other but staining lipstick tend to make my lip color dull in the long run.

Btw please excuse the hasty application (was rushing to work before swatch a thon).

  1. I had this one as well. The color 666 isn't particularly flattering on me but I do like this classic formula from Dior (In fact, my No.1 choice when I need to gift older friends). Nudes in this formula are really pretty (and non-staining), too. :D

    1. I just looked at the minis and it turns out that I have 999 instead. I kept remember it as the evil red...for two whole years.

I need to check those out! I am not a fan of nude (then again I don't like bold red and this one looks fine) but it's always curious seeing how brand make a wash-out shade flaterring on skin.

  2. Ouu this looks like a fun tomato red.
I got 999 for my cousin in China a while back which seems like more of a blue red

    1. I got this mini because 666 always mentioned on weibo (in the form of "I destroy my girlfriend's makeup" viral videos...the shade just kept popping up.

    2. Oops...It's 999 (I read it wrong all these two years). It looks pretty neutral in the tube but warmer on my lips.
