Maybelline Color Elixir has been around for a while now. I have two, from past limited editions, and love them while the regular line up just seems a bit lacklustre in comparison (a few of the interesting shades contain chunks and chunks of glitter).
When I picked up the Lash Sensational mascara, I decided I need a filler toy (which would be half off). So I went home with this.
Signature Scarlet is a (one of the few) shimmer-free crelly in a seemly neutral red. It's one of the shades that got a highly favorable review on Temptalia (which isn't a good thing for me, as our coloring/preference are so different that I tend to like products that she dissed and formula that she finds too sheer). It's rather pigmented with a smooth and marginally tacky formula. It reminds me some of the old Revlon Super Lustrous gloss, which is always a good thing.
Red is usually a very safe choice for me but I found Signature Scarlet very hard to wear. Usually a slightly brownish red looks healthy-neutral, orange red looks juicy and bright and cherry-leaning ones are brightening. Signature Scarlet looks neutral in the tube but get transformed into a weird shade of garish cherry on my purply mouth. It's a color that looks oddly prominent on my face and makes my skintone appear ashy.
Anyway, the shade looks great from google search results so I guess it's just my bad luck. At least it brings me newfound appreciation for the Radiant Raspberry and Orange Aglow that I have (they are both perfect for summer).
These Maybelline elixir lipglosses are really nice and pigmented, but for some reason it would sting my upper lip really bad whenever I applied it! I prefer the loreal extraordinaire version, no stinging. I remember these coming out 2 years or so ago, these lip gloss hybirds were all the rage, every brand had to make one from Dior to Maybelline. I believe Maybelline has made a matte version too called vivid matte or something like. I'm kinda over lipglosses, I'm more of a lipstick girl these days.
ReplyDeleteI like Loreal better as well, mainly because their shade selection is less obnoxious. I like buying lipsticks these days but glosses are so much easier on my lip lines (they go rancid much faster so I feel bad buying them).
