NYC Expert Last Lip Color in Coralista

NYC Expert Last Lip Color ($2) is not something that I would normally pick up, consider the lipsticks from the super-affordable brands never quite work for me. Under special circumstances (when there is a CVS coupon and you need a cheap filler to use another coupon), I give them a try just because...It's fun to diss about a product once in a while.

Package wise, this has that light and easily crackable tube and a bullet that doesn't retract fully. After 2-3 uses, this already looks like a battle field. At the very least, Coralista (a pigmented reddish orange coral with a ton of silvery shimmer) looks juicy and delicious. The scent is a combination of powdery artificial fruit-floral and wax, it's stronger than other lip product scent but not offensive to me.
Revlon Balm Stain Rendezvous, NYC Coralista, Revlon Colorburst Lipstick in Coral, Revlon Super Lustrous in Siren. NYC is almost identical to Continuous Coral Lip Glaze (but that has been long discontinued)

Formula wise, it actually turned out better than what I have expected. Even though it has that typical sit-on-top-of-skin kind of waxy slip. With the abundance of shimmer, it's kept more solid that it doesn't shift to much around the boundary. On a good lips day (not a good lighting day) when my lips had been soaked with balm for several hours, I was able to get a pain free application.
As for the Expert Last part about the lipstick, while the thin base does stain and stay, the top layer fades and rubs away very easily and the film that's left behind is quite drying.

Overall: For the price, it's not a bad product at all (given the colors is rather appealing)but since we are spoiled with choices (even just within drugstore), there are many better coral/oranges lipsticks out there, in terms of color, finish and comfort.

  1. It often seems that cheaper brands are easier on the budget but if you consider the amount of extra effort (pre-balming, topping up/mirroring) I'd often prefer a more expensive option too

    1. I usually just don't bother because they usually (I mean always) wear uncomfortably and the crushed bullet is always a paid eyesore...
